As expected, Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard defeated Kevin Rudd for the Australian Labor Party leadership. 

Rudd’s 31 votes, however, are a respectable enough showing.

This feels more like the beginning of a slow-motion trauma than the end of Labor’s problems.
